The cowpea and sorghum breeding programmes, and the seed systems activities offer opportunities for practical training for our graduate students through participation in every stage of the research activities. These activities provide an excellent harmony of class theory with actual breeding practice. These programmes also host students’ thesis research projects. There have been and currently are several PhD and MSc students working on cowpea and sorghum, and several undergraduates doing special research projects. Students’ research projects are designed to support the improvement of critical traits needed in new varieties.
